WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Who are We?

The Small Things Foundation is a registered charity and Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 297-207) founded in 2022 by Jamie Nye — a father, husband, ocean enthusiast, and entrepreneur — in Cape Town, South Africa. Built on the belief that small actions can create meaningful change, this charity was established to find practical, sustainable solutions to significant social challenges affecting local communities.

As a values-driven charity, the Small Things Foundation focuses on empowering youth, strengthening community structures, and creating long-term opportunities where they are needed most. The foundation believes that lasting impact is achieved not through quick fixes but through consistent support, collaboration, and shared purpose.

In 2023, the charity identified an urgent need to support and transform the award-winning Local Surf Lounge Academy, a community-based initiative that was facing the risk of closure. Recognising the Academy’s positive influence on youth development, education, and wellbeing, this project became the foundation’s primary focus. Supporting the Academy remains a core objective of the charity as it works towards long-term sustainability and growth.

Jamie works closely with Academy founder Shuan Solomans, local social justice advocate Shane Lentoor, and a committed team of youth leaders who play a vital role in delivering daily programmes. Together, they ensure the Local Surf Lounge Academy continues to provide a safe, inspiring space for young people to learn, grow, and build confidence.

Through this charity partnership, the Small Things Foundation is helping create opportunities, foster resilience, and strengthen community connections. Every initiative reflects the foundation’s mission to make a positive impact — one small thing at a time.
